Neurological care is the practice of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and function of diseases relating to the nerves and nervous system. Neurologists and neurosurgeons treat disorders that affect the brain or spinal cord.

Neurology and neurosurgery services we offer

As a patient at any of our hospitals, you have access to advanced treatment options for neurological diseases and injuries.

Neurosurgery

Our neurosurgeons perform a wide range of procedures using advanced technologies and minimally invasive techniques to treat brain tumors and aneurysms.

Minimally invasive surgery uses smaller incisions and achieves greater tissue preservation compared to other methods. This means less pain and a quicker recovery for you or your loved one.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS)

DBS is a minimally invasive technique used to treat chronic pain, movement disorders, psychiatric disorders and seizures.

During a DBS treatment, your neurologist will implant electrodes in your brain that will help regulate abnormal brain activity.

Intrathecal baclofen therapy (IBT)

IBT is a treatment option for severe spasticity (a condition where certain muscles continuously contract). IBT delivers medication directly to the space where fluid flows around the spinal cord, offering a more steady relief of symptoms than oral medication.

Neurorehabilitation

We understand how difficult recovering from neurological conditions can be. That is why we offer both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy and neurological therapy. Our goal is to help you address your specific needs for proper rehabilitation.

Neurorehabilitation (sometimes called neurological rehabilitation) is a process that helps patients with neurological disorders. For example, stroke recovery through our neurorehabilitation program helps with speech, strength and balance.

Similar to other types of therapy, neurorehabilitation helps with function, mobility and symptom management. However, unlike physical therapy, there is a focus on neurological conditions and injuries that affect the nervous system.

Neurorehabilitation can involve cognitive, speech and occupational therapy and targets areas such as:

  • Balance
  • Communication
  • Daily living activities
  • Depression
  • Low vision testing and treatment
  • Nutrition
  • Social and behavioral skills
  • Stress and anxiety management

Stroke care

We provide stroke care at our comprehensive stroke centers. These centers are certified to quickly and accurately remove blood clots in the brain.

We also have an advanced telemedicine program. Through this program, our neurologists can communicate with stroke patients in hospitals and emergency rooms (ERs) that do not have neurology experts on-call. By getting this immediate access to care, patients may receive time-critical medications, such as tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), which can save brain function and reduce disability from a stroke.

Pediatric neurology

At The Children's Hospital at TriStar Centennial, we offer neurological care for children. Our specialists treat conditions such as:

  • Brain injuries and concussions
  • Developmental delays
  • Epilepsy, seizures and seizure-like episodes
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Neurobehavioral disorders
  • Sleep disorders

Our specialists are here to offer a range of treatments for your child. Our treatments include:

  • Electroencephalography (EEG) laboratory for EEG studies
  • Neurobehavioral clinic, treating autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and oppositional-defiant disorder (ODD)
  • Outpatient rehabilitation therapists
  • Pediatric sleep center
