For patients at The Children's Hospital at TriStar Centennial

Our patients love having visitors. We work to help you make the most of your time with your loved ones. Knowing our visitor policy helps you become familiar with our schedule, amenities and essential hospital contact information.

Ask-A-Nurse

We're here to answer any medical questions you have, like: Are my symptoms normal? Do I need to go to the ER or an urgent care? Is my child's fever too high? Are there new treatment options for my chronic condition? Just call our free, 24/7 help line — Ask-A-Nurse.

Patient policies and procedures

We want to do all we can to help you prepare for your visit with us. Whether you are a patient or someone visiting a patient, we hope this knowledge is helpful.

Before your child's planned hospital admission

Before you even enter the hospital, our team makes some preparations via phone, including:

  • Your child's pediatrician's team gets approval from your insurance provider (some plans and procedures require pre-approval). Ask your insurance provider about costs you are responsible for.
  • Our hospital team reviews your child's health history.
  • Any nursing needs, anesthesia needs (if having surgery) and all other care is planned.
  • Appointments for any needed preoperative diagnostic tests are made. Use this time to ask any questions you may have, including available payment plans.

The night before surgery

If your child is having surgery, please make sure they do not eat or drink anything (even water) after midnight. You should also follow any additional instructions your child's doctor provides.

What you should bring

We make every effort to provide a relaxing environment for your child. As you prepare for their visit, consider bringing items to make them feel "at home." Do they have a favorite stuffed animal or toy? A favorite book? You should also bring personal necessities and toiletries (toothbrush, hairbrush, glasses, etc.)

It is also important to bring:

  • Proper identification and any legal documentation (power of attorney)
  • List of current medications
  • Insurance card

Each patient room has free wireless high-speed internet access you may connect to from a phone, laptop or tablet device.
